Foundation Night At The JAR

We Are Zips!

On a recent snowy night in Akron, things heated up inside The University of Akron’s “JAR” as the men’s basketball team set out to secure the MAC conference title. Giving the Zips a special home court advantage, LeBron’s Wheels for Education kids and their families from 11 different APS schools were on hand to celebrate “[LeBron James Family] Foundation Night.” Adding to the night’s electric atmosphere, fans in attendance all went home with a special edition LeBron James bobblehead. Packaged as a three-part series with his high school teammates and former Zips, Romeo Travis and Dru Joyce, this was the second straight year the Zips honored LeBron with a custom bobblehead.

To some, this was yet another exciting University of Akron men’s basketball game – one that saw the Zips clinch the MAC conference title – but for LeBron’s Wheels for Ed kids, it meant even more than a victory and a regular season championship. When one 4th grade student was asked, “Who do you want to win?” she proudly exclaimed, “The Zips ‘cause that’s where I’m going to college!” That cold night on the UA campus, LeBron’s kids got a small glimpse of the thrilling future that awaits them if they continue to work hard and keep their promises.
