I always hear people say, “When the going gets tough, the tough get going.” It made me ask myself, “Where do the tough go?” Time’s taught me that, while there is no physical “Tough Club” to run to, we can turn to one another.
It’s no secret, every season that I’ve been playing basketball, regardless of my commitment or work ethic, I’ve had a period of adversity. That’s kind of like your school year, right? At some point, no matter how hard you’re working, there’s going to be a tough patch. When you get to that point, don’t let adversity overwhelm you. Remember, you are where you are for a reason. Chances are, that reason has a lot to do with your teachers, family, and friends.
When the going gets tough, tell your family that you love them. Tell your teacher that you’re thankful to have them in your life. And tell your best friend you’re lucky they stood by you.
I am proud to have you in my program, and I am proud to say that we are family. Keep your heads up and keep working hard.
